Woman dies in crash in NSW Hunter region

A woman has died in a two-car crash in NSW's Hunter region and a motorcyclist has been killed in a collision with a car south of Sydney.

A woman has died after her car collided with a four-wheel drive near Lake Macquarie in NSW's Hunter region.

Police say the 40-year-old woman suffered serious injuries and died at the scene when her sedan collided with the other vehicle on The Esplanade at Warners Bay at about 6.30am (AEDT) on Friday.

The male driver of the four-wheel drive was uninjured and is assisting police with their inquiries.

On Thursday night a motorcyclist died after colliding with a car near Lake Illawarra, south of Sydney.

Police say the 39-year-old man died at the scene following the crash on the Princes Highway at Unanderra about 9.30pm (AEDT).

Reports will be prepared for the coroner on both deaths.
