Woman dies, man now faces murder charge

A man has had a previous charge of grievous bodily harm upgraded to murder and will appear in a far north Queensland court after a woman died.

Court charges against a man will be upgraded to murder following the death of a 20-year-old woman who was assaulted in far north Queensland.

The woman was found with head injuries when police arrived at the Aboriginal community of Yarrabah, east of Cairns, on Sunday morning.

She was transported to Townsville Base Hospital, but died on Monday night, police said.

A 37-year-old Yarrabah man has had a previous charge of grievous bodily harm upgraded to murder.

He remains in custody to appear before Cairns Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
