Woman ecstatic about Antarctic camera find

A Sydney woman is astounded to be reunited with a camera she lost months ago in the Antarctic wilderness.

A Sydney photographer says she believes in miracles after her camera, thought to have been lost forever in Antarctica, was returned to her through the power of selfies and social media.

Hulia Boz, 34, was gobsmacked when she learnt her white camera had been found on the continent by a tourist last week.

She had carried the point-and-shoot on the last-minute work trip in December, snapping photos including "selfies, camping on the snow and mucking around with the penguins".

After the camera vanished, she despaired at the loss of those once-in-a-lifetime memories.

She was reunited with them after an unknown man, believed to be part of an American expedition, handed the camera in to Antarctic officials, who posted Hulia's selfies on Facebook where it was seen by her friends.

"I'm amazed. I can't believe that someone's actually crossed paths with where we were. There's nothing but penguins and seals on the iceberg," said Hulia, who wants to track down her new "hero".

"I've now got a story to tell my grandkids - not only that their grandmother went to Antarctica but also this crazy story where I got my camera back from the bottom of the earth," she told AAP.
