A woman has narrowly escaped an abduction attempt in Melbourne.

The 19-year-old was walking along Corrigan Street in Noble Park around 5.15am (AEDT) on February 12 when a vehicle pulled in front of her, blocking her path, police say.

A man got out of the dark coloured sedan, which had no registration plates, and started running towards her and threatening her.

Another man was seen in the driver's seat behind the car's tinted windows.

The woman ran to nearby Sandown Park Railway Station and flagged down a man who appeared to be on his way to work, police said.

As he helped the woman, the man chasing her ran back to the car and left.

The woman was not injured during the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and they are also keen to speak with the good Samaritan who assisted the woman.
