A woman has fallen into a three-metre sinkhole in a Melbourne backyard.

The 45-year-old woman was in the Springvale backyard when she fell three metres into a grass sinkhole, a Country Fire Authority spokeswoman said.

Specialist equipment was used to pull the woman from the hole about 10 minutes later.

There was no damage to surrounding buildings, the spokeswoman said.

It is not yet known whether the woman was injured in the midday fall on Tuesday.
