A young woman is fighting for life in a Newcastle hospital after an allegedly drunk man crashed a ute into her scooter.
The woman, 23, was riding along a main thoroughfare at Toronto on Saturday evening when the man tried to turn right across the road, allegedly causing the collision which has left the woman in a critical condition in John Hunter Hospital.
The male driver was breath tested at the scene of the crash and allegedly blew 0.117, more than four times the limit.
Cannabis was also allegedly found in the ute.
Police subsequently charged the man with several offences including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
He's due before Toronto Local Court on Wednesday.
