Woman fined after racist attack on Muslim couple

Police have tracked down and fined a woman who was filmed allegedly verbally abusing a Muslim couple on a Sydney train last month.

Woman filmed in a racist rant on a Sydney train has been fined
A 70-year-old woman has been issued with a rail infringement notice by police after an alleged racist rant against a Muslim couple on a train in Sydney last month.

In a statement, Police Transport Command said the Central Coast woman was fined for behaving "in an offensive manner" on a public train.

Offensive behaviour carries a maximum penalty of $1100.

Footage of the incident went viral when Sydney woman Stacy Eden, who defended the couple and filmed it, posted the video to Facebook.

In the video the olde woman said "Why do you wear it for a man that marries a six-year-old girl?"

Ms Eden, 23, who was praised for sticking up for the couple replied "She wears it for herself, OK?.

"She wears it because she wants to be modest with her body, not because of people like you who are going to sit there and disrespect her."

The woman continued to hurl verbal abuse against Hafeez Ahmed Bhatti and his wife who were visiting Sydney for the day from Brisbane.

"Your kids behead people," she said.

Ms Eden responded: "That's not her doing it. That's a minority of people, not a majority of people."

After the incident Mr Bhatti, originally from Pakistan, thanked Ms Eden on Facebook.

Last month he confirmed he had asked police to charge the woman who allegedly abused him and his wife.
