Woman found dead in NSW yard, man charged

A man, 55, has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was found in a backyard on the NSW Central Coast.

A woman found dead in the backyard of a NSW Central Coast home had only lived there for about six weeks before a man was arrested and charged with her murder.

Garry Weigand, 55, was charged on Wednesday after the body of Sandra Deacon was found dead in the backyard of the home in Sonoma Road, Budgewoi, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Neighbours told AAP Ms Deacon, believed to be in her mid 40's, had been living at the home for about six weeks, but was a regular visitor to the house before moving in.

"I used to say hello to her on the way to the shops," said Margaret Wright, who lives on Sonoma St.

"She'd push her shopping trolley - like one the old ladies have."

Mrs Wright and her husband Stephen they heard no commotion overnight at the home.

Weigand had lived on the street - described as the "quietest in Budgewoi" - for 40 years, Mr Wright said.

Weigand appeared at Wyong Local Court for mention on Wednesday and was refused bail to reappear on November 26.
