A woman is in critical condition in Sydney's Westmead Hospital following an alleged domestic dispute.

A woman is on life support after suffering head injuries and a collapsed lung in an alleged domestic dispute in Sydney's west.

Police said the 51-year-old woman had been arguing with her partner at their home in Quakers Hill, before paramedics were called to take her to hospital during the early hours of Monday morning.

Her 46-year-old partner was charged with assault occasioning grievous harm.

He has been refused bail and will appear in Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday.
