Woman 'stabbed partner with screwdriver'

A 25-year-old woman is behind bars accused of stabbing her female partner multiple times with a screwdriver in a domestic dispute.

A woman who was allegedly stabbed in the eye and genitals with a screwdriver is in hospital and her girlfriend is behind bars accused of carrying out the vicious attack.

The 30-year-old victim was also allegedly stabbed in the arm and ear, strangled, and beaten about the head at an Ashgrove home in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police claim her 25-year-old girlfriend brandished a knife as well as a screwdriver during the domestic violence incident, and that a man who intervened was cut.

The accused woman allegedly told police she had been drinking.

She appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with one count each of rape, acts intending to maim or disfigure, and breaching a domestic violence order.

The woman did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody by Magistrate John Costello.

Their flatmates say they raised the alarm after hearing an argument.

A friend of the accused woman, who came to court, said she was there when the attack allegedly unfolded.

"We're pretty shocked because we thought everybody had gone to bed," Michelle Creaser said.

The woman's case has been adjourned until July 13.
