Women free to choose clothes: Nationals MP

Nationals MP Keith Pitt says he will support women choosing their own clothing in a party debate on banning full facial coverings, including the burqa.

A federal Nationals MP has come out in support of a woman's right to choose what they wear ahead of a party debate about banning the burqa.

Queenslander Keith Pitt backs the federal government's position on women being free to choose their clothing, but told reporters in Canberra he had an issue if they were "forced into wearing something else".

Nationals MP George Christensen will propose a motion that bans wearing full facial coverings in public, including the burqa and niqab, at the Nationals federal conference this weekend.
