Western Bulldogs midfielder Mitch Wallis has gone from the doghouse at Whitten Oval to the leadership group in the space of six months.
Wallis capped a stunning turnaround when he was elevated into Easton Wood's six-man leadership group on Tuesday.
Wood will captain the Dogs for a second season, with young star Marcus Bontempelli to continue as vice-captain.
After just one season at the club, former Port Adelaide utility Jackson Trengove is the other new face in the group, joining Jason Johannisen and Lachie Hunter.
Wallis and Trengove replace departed duo Jordan Roughead and Jack Redpath.
Wallis looked headed for the exit at Whitten Oval just a few months ago.
The 123-game midfielder, who was out of contract at season's end, appeared to be at odds with coach Luke Beveridge as he languished in the VFL despite the team's struggles in the AFL.
But after earning his spot back in round 13, Wallis enjoyed a strong finish to the season and signed a new three-year deal.
"I wouldn't go as far to say (I was looking for) the exit, but there was obviously a little bit of speculation last year," Wallis told reporters on Tuesday.
"But I'm a true Bulldog at heart and it was just about working through until the end of the year.
"I needed to get the confidence back in my own ability, which I thought I did towards the end of the year.
"I'm very honoured to be a part of the leadership group, but the hard work starts now ... putting those words into action, having a good start to the year and carrying that through."
Trengove impressed in his first season under Beveridge, filling multiple roles and playing under duress at one point having fractured a shoulder blade.
The 28-year-old was a noted on-field leader in 153 games for the Power before his free agency move to the Bulldogs.
"Coming from Port and being in their leadership group it was going to be no different here," Trengove said.
"I think I was able to lead by example.
"It's great for me and Mitch to be able to play a role for the team especially with the young kids we've got at the footy club.
"Just as a sounding board for them and to be able to bring our ideas and techniques to the club is good."
