Consumers will be able to pick up items purchased from eBay sellers at Woolworths and Big W outlets in a new scheme that aims to take advantage of the booming online shopping market.

Supermarket giant Woolworths and online auction site eBay made the joint announcement on Tuesday, saying the venture would allow consumers to collect eBay orders from 93 Woolworths and Big W stores across NSW and Tasmania.

The service, which starts Tuesday, will apply to a number of businesses operating on ebay, such as Your Home Depot, No Frills and Golfbox, Woolworths said.

A Woolworths spokeswoman told AAP consumers would pay no additional charge to pick up orders from participating outlets.

"The new service launches in response to the growing online retail landscape and consumer demand," Woolworths and eBay said in a statement.

Woolworths and eBay hope up to 12,000 online sellers will be involved in the scheme over the next three years.

Woolworths owns discount department store Big W, which suffered flagging earnings last year.
