Woolworths is expected to unveil strong sales growth outpacing that of fierce rival Coles in a sign its hefty price cuts have won over customers.
Analysts have also tipped Woolies to have grown full-year earnings when the supermarket giant unveils its 2017 results on Wednesday.
Citi analysts say Woolworths' sales-led recovery, including more than $1 billion poured into lower prices in the past three years, is gathering momentum.
"We expect Woolworths gained market share in the fourth quarter of the 2017 financial year as rival Coles weakened and Aldi's growth slowed on the east coast," the Citi team said in a report.
Woolworths' key comparable food sales are forecast to have grown 5.3 per cent in the fourth quarter to beat Coles' sales growth for a third consecutive quarter.
Wesfarmers-owned Coles last week reported comparable sales growth of 0.7 per cent in the fourth quarter and a fall in full-year earnings for the first time in nine years.
Meanwhile, Woolworths' struggling discount department store Big W is expected to continue to perform poorly and to make a loss.
