An African community-focussed work experience program this year celebrates its 100th participant.
The African Australian Inclusion Program, a joint effort between Jesuit Social Services and the National Australia Bank, offers six month internships at the NAB for qualified African migrants and refugees.
The program started in 2009, and operators say 86 per cent of those involved have gone on to secure full time employment at companies including the NAB, Accenture, PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM.
Bedi Othow completed the program two years ago, now she works in human resources.
Ms Othow says despite obtaining a degree, she wasn't able to gain relevant employment due to a lack of work experience in the Australian business sector.
Ms Othow told Abby Dinham, it's a common problem amongst the African migrant communities.
