Work sickies at lowest level since GFC

Absenteeism levels have reached a seven-year low, but work sickies still cost the economy $32.5 billion per year, a new report shows.

Aussies aren't chucking sickies like they used to, with work absenteeism dropping to its lowest level since the global financial crisis.

The average worker now takes 8.6 days of sick leave per year, a new report shows.

The survey of 97 companies, covering 220,000 employees across the country, has found absenteeism levels has fallen by seven per cent in 2015.

Absenteeism costs the national economy $32.5 billion per annum in lost wages and productivity, absence-management firm Direct Health Solutions estimates.

On average, that equates to $347 per work day, the firm said.
