Workers fear digital skill shortage: study

Many fear poor knowledge of technology will hit their job and earnings prospects, a report says.

Almost half of workers do not know where to go to improve their digital skills, even though many fear poor knowledge will hit their job and earnings prospects, according to a new report.

Two out of five admitted their digital expertise was average to poor, but there was a lack of information of how to tackle the problem, a study of 2000 adults found.

The issue was highlighted by the Hour of Code campaign, which aims to get millions of people gaining a better understanding of technology.

Avid Larizadeh, head of Hour of Code UK said: "It's no surprise that so many professionals believe they do not need digital skills or are unsure about where to gain a clearer insight. There is a lot of confusion and fear about the digital world and what it might mean for us in the future."

Organisations, schools, businesses and individuals in the UK are all encouraged to participate in the Hour of Code UK by visiting hourofcode.com/uk.
