WorkSafe is investigating how a crane at a Melbourne construction site partially collapsed, injuring one person.

Emergency crews were called to Southbank shortly before 4pm on Friday following reports of a loud crash in the area and say a failed hydraulic ramp was to blame for the collapse.

MFB incident commander George Arnold said the crane was being jacked up to the next level when a hydraulic ramp failed.

One person was treated for minor leg injuries.
