World champion Lacourt out of Euros

France's double world champion Camille Lacourt has been forced to pull out of the upcoming European swimming championships in Berlin due to injury.

Double world champion Camille Lacourt of France has pulled out of the European swimming championships after failing to recover fully from a long-standing hip injury.

Lacourt was due to swim in the 50m and 100m backstroke in Berlin from August 18-24 but he told French television that he had already decided to sit out the championships.

"I took the decision 10 days ago," he said, although the injury won't require surgery.

"But I have to discover what the problem is and come back stronger."
