"We don't care about politics, we don't care about poverty, we don't care about anything, football is the only thing we care [about]," said Mexican Australian fan Eduardo Mendez.
Sydney-based Cameroon supporter Martial Ekange was also unequivocal about his countrymen’s love for the beautiful game and for the World Cup.
"When there is a game it's like the whole country is still, everything stops, the shops stop, this is the national team," Ekange said.
Mexico’s qualification turned into a disaster and the team only just qualified for the 2014 after overcoming football minnows New Zealand in a playoff.
Despite this, Mexican fans in Australia are hopeful of a good showing later this year.
"I think the guys will play amazing, I think we might beat Brazil, and if we go to the second round it'll be just amazing," said Mendez.
Cameroon’s qualification through Africa was smoother but it will still be reliant on veteran striker Samuel Eto’o for success in Brazil.
