HIGHS AND LOWS FROM OPENING DAY OF THE EIGHT-DAY WORLD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT BUDAPEST ON SUNDAY
SWIM OF THE DAY - Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom (51.71) becomes the first woman to shatter the 52-second barrier in the 100m freestyle, breaking Australian Cate Campbell's world record as Sweden's lead-off swimmer in the 4x100m freestyle relay final.
STAT OF THE DAY - Sjostrom's staggering time will take some beating but Australia's Emma McKeon also impressed, equalling Jessicah Schipper's 2009 supersuit Commonwealth and national record (56.23) to qualify second fastest for Monday night's 100m butterfly final behind Sjostrom.
UPSET OF THE DAY - Hard to say the women's Australian 4x100m freestyle relay team disappointed by claiming silver without Cate Campbell who is on a 2017 sabbatical, but their three-year unbeaten streak at major meets did come to an end when they were pipped by the United States in Sunday's final.
TALKING POINT - Australia's Olympic champ Mack Horton refused to have another crack at China's controversial Sun Yang after being relegated to 400m freestyle silver by the man he called a "drug cheat" at Rio. But that all could change when they meet again in the 200m, 800m and 1500m this week. Watch this space.
QUOTE OF THE DAY - "I think the (slow) time stings a bit more" - Australia's MACK HORTON when asked how much it stung to be beaten by almost two and a half seconds in the 400m freestyle final by Sun, who served a doping ban in 2014.
