Worse NBN rollout result is actually good: Turnbull

The federal government insists NBN figures, less than what Labor would have claimed, are a more accurate picture of the rollout.

Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull is trumpeting a milestone performance by the national broadband network even though it's not as impressive as one Labor would have claimed.

The network has now reached more than one million serviceable premises across the country, half a million fewer than Labor would have reported.

But the difference is down to a change in the way figures are calculated, resulting in a more accurate picture of the rollout, Mr Turnbull said on Wednesday.
