Wounded Crow vows to return to AFL ranks

Adelaide's Andy Otten says he knows the tough road ahead to return to AFL ranks after having a second knee reconstruction.

Adelaide's Andy Otten knows it's a tough road to return to AFL ranks after a second knee reconstruction.

The 25-year-old utility had his right knee reconstructed on Tuesday night, less than five years after the same operation on his left knee.

Otten, who was hurt in Adelaide's win against Brisbane last Sunday, says he'll draw on lessons learnt from his previous comeback.

"I know what is ahead. I kept a journal last time of what I did, so I'll be flicking through that to see what worked," Otten told Adelaide's club website on Wednesday.

Otten immediately realised the extent of his latest knee injury.

"It was exactly the same as last time," said Otten, who has played 10 games this season for a career total of 79.

"I heard the sound. It was very loud and a few of the boys said they heard it as well."

Otten considered the synthetic LARS procedure before opting for the traditional surgery and a 12-month stint on the sidelines.

"I spoke with my surgeon about LARS but he didn't think it was a viable option for me ... LARS has a higher re-rupture rate."
