WASHINGTON — A Washington Post article about Arne Duncan's tenure as U.S. education secretary incorrectly described the requirements Duncan set for states seeking waivers from provisions of the No Child Left Behind law and competing for federal grants. Duncan required states to adopt "college and career ready" K-12 standards to obtain the waivers. Adoption of the standards was not required to receive grants, although states that did adopt the standards received extra points in the competition for grants.
