World Championship leader Tyler Wright has thrown down the gauntlet to her rivals at the Trestles Women's Pro and stormed into the quarter-finals with two near-perfect rides.
The 21-year-old Australian revelled in the small conditions to put down scores of 8.5 and 9.07 and dominate her third round heat against fellow Aussie Laura Enever and American Sage Erickson.
Wright is joined in the quarter-finals by fellow Australian Nikki van Dijk, who upset Wright's main rival for the championship Courtney Conlogue in their third round heat.
Van Dijk's last two rides of her heat getting her a quarter-final spot.
Three-time world champion Carissa Moore also got through to the quarters with a come-from-behind win over Australians Steph Gilmore and Keely Andrew.
Gilmore seemed in complete control of the heat after dropping a 9.10 on her first ride but failed to score better than a 2.5 in any of her other rides, allowing a consistent and surprised Moore to advance.
"Anytime you come up against Steph Gilmore you know you have to bring your `A' game," Moore said.
"I don't actually feel like I brought it here and I was like I have got to turn it around.
"I felt like it was Steph's heat to lose because she is really good out here and has been surfing really solid.
"I just tried to get myself back in the heat and I got away with one but it's not going to happen again."
Gilmore will have a knockout showdown with Conlogue in the final fourth round heat for a spot in the quarter-finals, while Andrew will face Hawaii's Malia Manuel and Enever faces Coco Ho.
Frenchwoman Johanne Defay rounds out the early quarter-finalists.
