Wright expecting high balls from Raiders

Jonathan Wright says he expects the Raiders to kick high and often to his wing when he makes his debut for the Warriors on Sunday.

Warriors winger Jonathan Wright is expecting an aerial bombardment when he makes his debut for the NRL club against Canberra on Sunday.

Wright, who joined the Warriors from Cronulla in the off-season, missed last weekend's loss to Newcastle after incurring a suspension last season for a dangerous throw, co-incidentally against the Raiders.

The 27-year-old has no doubt he'll face a number of high kicks from the Raiders, who beat the Sharks last week.

"Last week that's all they did basically," he said.

"A lot of teams score a lot of points from the kick up and chasing it so we have to make sure we're on our game, players get back, escort, and make sure we're making our catches."

"There's about three or four tries a game like that so if we can nullify that there's 10 points we can save."

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden said Wright's prowess in the air was a big part of why he was selected on the wing and Tuimoala Lolohea in the centres, rather than the other way round.

"Canberra's got pretty strong outside backs that can catch the ball high, and Jono's very competent in the air," McFadden said.

"Plus I want to get Tui closer to the action. He needs to get his hands on the ball."

Wright was signed by the Warriors last December and says he's enjoyed the move away from Sydney.

"In Sydney it's a new level. Every day footy is in the papers and media's everywhere, for certain clubs anyway. Over here it's a bit laid back which is good," he said.

"The family's really enjoying it, the kids are here and as soon as I got off the plane I felt so de-stressed and just ready to go and enjoy my footy game."

The Warriors let a 14-6 halftime lead slip against the Knights in their first NRL match, fading in the Saturday afternoon heat to lose 24-14, and Wright agreed that cutting the error rate was vital.
