Wright lives out BBL dream with Stars

Luke Wright's stunning century in Melbourne Stars' win over Melbourne Renegades in front of a record crowd at the MCG was the stuff dreams are made of.

As far as cricketing dreams go they don't come much better than the one Luke Wright experienced on Saturday night.

Melbourne Stars' English import reached his century with the fourth six of his innings then produced a powerfully-struck boundary to seal a season-saving win for his side over their cross-town rivals in front of a record-breaking crowd of 80,883 screaming fans at the MCG. "It's just unbelievable - you look around and you pinch yourself," Wright said.

"How special was that? To get the win - it was probably one of the best cricketing moments I've had in my life, to be honest.

"I played in a big game here for England but rather than people abusing me it was great to have a home crowd like that. For the whole competition, it sends a message around the world about how good this Big Bash is."

Wright finished unbeaten on 109 off 63 balls, with 11 fours in addition to his four sixes, in the seven-wicket win that keeps Stars' BBL05 hopes alive and made things very difficult for Renegades.

"There's nothing like the roar of the MCG," Stars coach Stephen Fleming said.

"Very few really experience it and for this group of players to experience that ... it's right up the top. "The players are absolutely pinching themselves and for Luke to have a day like that - it'll be one he'll never forget."

Fleming felt that his players enjoyed the theatre that the huge crowd provided but admitted there were some nerves at the death before his side scored the win that keeps them in touch with the top four with a 2-2 win-loss record.
