Australian diver Melissa Wu overcame a cold and early-round jitters to clinch gold in the 10m platform event at the Puerto Rico Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old beat out Chinese stars Ji Siyu and Qian Ren in the final for a place on the top step of the podium in San Juan on Sunday.
Camptriot Rachel Bugg finished fourth.
The victory added to Wu's bronze medal in the synchronised platform with Bugg a day earlier, which was won by Qian and Ji ahead of American duo Amy Cozad and Katrina Young.
Wu had been struggling with illness in the lead up to the weekend and was found herself sleeping "a lot more" than usual.
"I'm pretty happy, especially because I dived much better in the final than I did in the preliminaries and the semi," Wu said.
"I was not that good in the first couple of rounds - it took me a couple of days to get my head together."
It marks a remarkable comeback for the platform specialist, who was forced out of the pool much of last year with a back injury.
The two-time Olympic silver medallist is riding high in 2014, however, as she prepares for the upcoming World Cup and her third Commonwealth Games campaign.
"Everything is going well," Wu said.
"I managed to get a solid block of training leading up to this competition, so I'm looking forward to (the Grand Prix meet in) Mexico next week."
Australia also picked up a silver medal in the women's three-metre synchro final, through Esther Qin and Anna Gelai.
