WWI Victoria Cross goes on display

The Victoria Cross awarded to an Australian soldier in the final months of WWI goes on display at the Australian War Memorial on Friday.

The Victoria Cross awarded to Australian soldier Corporal Lawrence Weathers for storming a German trench and taking 180 prisoners in the final months of WWI goes on display at the Australian War Memorial on Friday.

This medal was donated anonymously and takes the Memorial's VC collection on display in the Hall of Valour to 79.

Corporal Weathers never knew he'd been recommended for the high award for his gallantry on September 2, 1918 - he was mortally wounded by a shellburst a month later.
