Gold Coast captain Nate Myles is set to undergo X-rays on Tuesday after injuring his hand in the Titans' record 38-6 NRL loss to Manly.
Test prop Myles left the field in the 52nd minute of the Titans' worst home defeat and did not return after appearing to hyper-extend fingers.
Gold Coast coach Neil Henry is keeping his fingers crossed that Myles is not added to the Titans' already worrying injury list.
The Gold Coast are down nine first grade regulars including their first choice halves Kane Elgey and Aidan Sezer.
Asked if Myles would play next week, Henry said: "I don't know, he's pretty tough.
"But we will have to get some X-rays to see if he has a break - that would be the concern."
Henry admitted it would be a test of character how his team responded against an "equally desperate" Newcastle on Saturday night after what he deemed their worst display of 2015.
The third straight loss is another dent in the faint finals hopes of the Titans (14th; 6-10 record).
"That's our poorest performance of the year. We weren't in it after 15 minutes," Henry said.
"The attitude wasn't there to get into a contest - we were thoroughly outplayed."
Henry believed the Titans may have struggled coming off a bye in their first game in 15 days.
At least there is some good news on the injury front.
Will Zillman (back) and Kane Elgey (ankle) look set to play Newcastle, while Test forward Greg Bird finally returns from an eight-week ban.
Hooker Beau Falloon (wrist) returned against Manly in his first game since round eight.
