Independent senator Nick Xenophon wants to bring more foreign money into Australia by increasing the number of investor migrants.

He plans to put new laws to parliament in August to bring an extra 40,000 migrants to regional areas with low population and economic growth, with a fast-tracked pathway to permanent residency for investors, small business owners and international students.

Senator Xenophon says his plan, developed in conjunction with migration and industry stakeholders, will boost jobs in those areas.
