Xenophon questions budget on car jobs

South Australian Independent Senator Nick Xenophon says the budget has failed to tackle the looming job losses in the auto sector.

South Australian Independent Senator Nick Xenophon has lashed the federal budget for ignoring the looming closure of the car industry in Australia.

Senator Xenophon says 200,000 jobs are at risk, largely across SA and Victoria, when local automakers Ford, Toyota and Holden close their assembly operations by the end of 2017.

"For a budget that is supposed to be all about jobs and growth, it's inexcusable that it fails to acknowledge the crisis of manufacturing in this country, not just in auto, but in our steel industry," he said.
