Xie's wife breaks down at Lin family murder trial

Kathy Lin has cried in court while describing the murder scene she discovered at her brother's Sydney home.

The wife of the man accused of killing five members of the Lin family has sobbed through a second day of evidence at his trial.

Kathy Lin today recounted to the Supreme Court the moments after she and her husband Robert Xie found the bludgeoned bodies.

"That is my best memory ... I remember blood," she wept while giving evidence at her husband's murder trial on Thursday.

She said that blood on the wall was the first thing she saw when she and Xie walked into the bedroom her brother and sister-in-law Lily Lin shared.

"I saw the blood on wall. I saw next to my sister-in-law, I saw body under doona cover," she said.

She said she did not see any part of her brother's body.

Justice Elizabeth Fullerton repeatedly cajoled her, urging her to stop crying, as Ms Lin repeatedly broke down at the Supreme Court.

She wept as she recalled how Xie had grabbed her after she witnessed the scene.

"Was he next to you or was he behind you?" crown prosecutor Mark Tedeschi QC asked.

"I can't even think but he hug (sic) me," she said.

The crown alleges Xie was driven by intense bitterness and hatred when he crept into the home in the hours before the grisly discovery.

Xie is accused of killing his brother in law Min Lin, his wife Lily, her sister Irene and Min and Lily's sons Henry and Terry at their North Epping home in 2009.

Kathy Lin and her husband went to check on the family after the newsagent run by Min Lin failed to open that day.

Mrs Lin told the court she rang triple zero to report what she had seen.

Her three triple zero calls were recorded.

The crown prosecutor asked Mrs Lin if she had had an argument with her husband during one of the calls, as he began driving away from the scene to drop their own son home.

"Were you scared after your husband left you?" Tedeschi asked.

Mrs Lin said she was upset at the triple zero call operator because the operator kept asking questions that she couldn't answer.

She said it was her idea for Xie to take their son home and then go to her parents’ house to tell them what had happened.

Robert Xie has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The trial continues.
