Yahoo launches online travel magazine

Yahoo announces it's launching an online travel magazine, as the once-mighty search company looks to cement its place as an internet media player.

Yahoo is launching a digital travel magazine as it looks to cement its place as an internet media player.

It will include city guides, travel tips and budget advice in addition to more conventional vacation stories, says the incoming travel editor Paula Froelich in a blog post.

The site will mimic recent additions such as Yahoo Tech and Yahoo Food, which launched in January and are visited by about 13 million people each month, Froelich says.

The blog post, largely pitched to advertisers, says the site will offer "the same seamless native advertising, with sponsored articles and videos that are just as engaging as the stories around them".

Native ads on Yahoo Food and Yahoo Tech have been shared on social media "almost as much as the content itself", Froelich says.

The once-mighty search engine has been working under CEO Marissa Mayer to reposition itself as a digital content provider.

In separate announcements, Yahoo trumpeted two new comedy programs and a plan to live-stream concerts.
