The New York Yankees made their first big move in the off-season free agent market on Friday, signing coveted relief pitcher Andrew Miller to a four-year deal.
The YES Network reported the deal to be worth $US36 million ($A39m) million) for the left-hander, who is coming off a dominant 2014 season with the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
Miller posted a 2.02 earned run average and racked up a career-best 103 strikeouts in 62-1/3 innings last season.
The 29-year-old's addition likely reduces New York's chances of bringing back closing pitcher David Robertson, also a free agent.
Miller played in a key role in Boston's run to the 2013 World Series title and was traded to the Orioles on July 31 after the Red Sox fell out of the 2014 playoff race.
In another move on Friday the Yankees, looking ahead to life without iconic captain Derek Jeter, obtained shortstop Didi Gregorius from Arizona in a three-team deal.
