Users of Yaz and Yasmin contraceptives are coming together to take on Bayer, the creator of the pills which have been linked to increased health risks.
Law firm Tindall Gask Bentley has been seeking out the approximately 200,000 Australian women who use the pills, which contain the hormone Drospirenone.
The firm stated that the contraceptives have been associated with an increased risk of:
- Stroke
- Heart attack
- Gall bladder
- Issues
- Blood clots
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Pulmonary embolism
Tindall Gask Bentley said Bayer had misrepresented the risks of using the pills, but a statement from the manufacturer – issued almost four years ago – outlined an “increased risk of thromboembolic and thrombotic disease”.
The statement said that the benefits outweighed the risked when used as directed.
According to watchdog website DrugWatch.com, Bayer has reportedly settled 8250 cases relating to the side effects of Yaz.
