A distinctively Melbourne brand of electronic dance music entranced Will Sparks, who as a teenager regularly jumped the back fence at a suburban club to get his fix.
Now aged just 20, the DJ is a leader in the Melbourne Sound genre and a rising star on the international dance music scene.
He plays at packed gigs in the United States and Europe and is sharing the Future Music Festival bill with the likes of Grammy award winner Pharrell Williams and Deadmau5.
Sparks says he might have to move to Los Angeles soon to cope with his packed American touring schedule.
"It has all just come naturally I guess," he says from Bali, where he is playing a few shows.
"I'm making my music and I'm in my bedroom and I don't care where it takes me.
"But it just took me on this path and kept going and it's hard to comprehend but I'm going to go with it."
He started playing music on his guitar before he was drawn into electronic dance music.
His sister was into a Melbourne style of dance music and Sparks began to like the genre too.
Sparks began going to Room 680 in suburban Hawthorn and started befriending the DJs.
"The night was on a Thursday and I used to jump the back fence because I was underage," he says.
"I used to go in there by myself for pretty much three months straight and I used to watch the DJs and the music and dance to myself."
Sparks is now considered a leader in the horn-infused Melbourne Sound style of electronic dance music.
Ah Yeah! and a remix of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines are among his most popular tracks.
