Exciting Melbourne AFL youngster Clayton Oliver is in hot water after failing a roadside breath test.
The 19-year-old informed the club on Tuesday he had failed the test while on annual leave.
"We are extremely disappointed in the decisions Clayton made, which led to this," Demons football boss Josh Mahoney said.
"Not only did he put himself at risk, but he put his passenger and members of the general public at risk and this is completely unacceptable.
"We have discussed this with Clayton and he is extremely remorseful for his actions. Clayton understands how lucky he was and that nothing more serious occurred as a result of his poor decision-making on this occasion.
"Clayton has taken the first step by accepting responsibility for his actions. We are confident that with the program we will put in place that he will not only learn from this incident, but also play a role in ensuring other young people do not make the same mistake."
The Demons will wait until the club's senior players return for pre-season training next week before handing down a punishment.
Oliver, the No.4 draft pick in 2015, played 13 games this season and earned a Rising Star nomination for his eye-catching debut in round one.
