Young guns set Aust indoor track records

Joseph Deng and Stewart McSweyn have broken Australian indoor track records in Birmingham.

Rising track stars Joseph Deng and Stewart McSweyn have both broken Australian indoor records at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix meeting in England.

Deng won the 800m in 1min 47.27sec, while McSweyn clocked 3:35.10 for third place in the 1500m.

The 20-year-old Deng had already broken the outdoor national 800m record set by Ralph Doubell at the 1968 Mexico Olympics when he clocked 1:44.21 in Monaco last July.

Tasmanian McSweyn, 23, made huge improvements in his times in 2018 and is behind only Craig Mottram on the national all-time list over 5000m after he clocked 13:05.23 in Brussels last August.
