Young Liberal resigns from job after fight

A Liberal senator has accepted the resignation of one of her staffers who got into a fight with another Young Liberal who backed Malcolm Turnbull.

A federal government staffer who got into a fight with a Malcolm Turnbull supporter at a heated Young Liberal meeting the night after this week's leadership change has resigned.

Jakov Miljak, a staffer to parliamentary secretary Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, allegedly grappled with James Camilleri in Sydney on Tuesday night.

Senator Fierravanti-Wells told ABC radio Friday she didn't think it was appropriate behaviour and accepted Mr Miljak's resignation.

The conservative senator said the transition from Tony Abbott to Mr Turnbull had been done with "a relatively small degree of rancour".

But the parliamentary secretary, who backed Mr Abbott, said it had been a very, very difficult week but the tenor of the transition bode well for Mr Turnbull's prime ministership.
