Young Collingwood AFL star Matthew Scharenberg is recovering well after undergoing his second knee reconstruction.
Scharenberg, 20, ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in an innocuous training mishap last week.
The luckless defender missed most of the 2015 season as he recovered from the same procedure on his left knee.
"Surgery all done and dusted!" Scharenberg wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
"Definitely feels good to get it out of the way!
"Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the kind messages and thoughts, I really appreciate it. I feel extremely blessed to have so many supportive people around me."
Magpies football chief Neil Balme said the youngster would soon embark on a lengthy rehabilitation process.
"Matthew's surgery was conducted earlier this week, and all indications are that everything went to plan," Balme told the club's website.
"With his fantastic attitude, we are confident he will attack his rehabilitation in a professional manner to ensure he makes a full and proper recovery."
The club hasn't put a timeframe on his return to the field but he must be considered a long shot to play in 2016, with the Pies likely to take a cautious approach.
Scharenberg, the sixth overall pick at the 2013 draft, signed a new three-year contract with the club in September.
