Young Rooster banned for eight matches

Sydney Roosters' under-20s hooker Grant Garvey has been banned for eight matches for a grade four dangerous throw.

Sydney Roosters' under-20s hooker Grant Garvey has pleaded guilty to a grade four dangerous throw charge and will serve an eight-match suspension.

Garvey was sanctioned following a spear tackle on Manly's Addison Demetriou in Saturday's trial match at Gosford.

Demetriou was taken to Gosford Hospital for scans but was cleared of any neck injuries.

The 19-year-old former South Sydney junior faced a potential 10-match ban had he fought the charge and lost.

It is the largest suspension handed out to a player since the NRL announced a crackdown on dangerous throws following the serious injury sustained by Newcastle back-rower Alex McKinnon last year.
