Young Vic horse trainer dies in accident

A 28-year-old woman has died following an accident at a harness racing training centre in Melbourne.

A young harness racing trainer has died after she was found unconscious in a garden bed at a training centre in Melbourne's east.

The woman, named in media reports as 28-year-old Danielle Lewis, was unable to be revived after being discovered at the Cranbourne Harness Training Centre about 7.10am on Monday.

Police believe the woman was riding one horse and leading another when she fell.

Trainer Greg Hanson told reporters the harness racing community is tight-knit and the woman would be missed.

Harness Racing Victoria CEO John Anderson said those at the centre when the accident happened would receive counselling.

"It is a tragic accident and a terrible loss for the industry," Mr Anderson said.
