An inexperienced spinner and Brian Lara's cousin are tipped as key men for the West Indies during Australia's cricket tour of the Caribbean.

Sunil Narine and Darren Bravo, who both hail from Trinidad, are players Australia must look out for, says former West Indies vice-captain Brendan Nash.

Narine is a 23-year-old right-arm offspinner with 34 wickets at 11.88 in his six first-class appearances who has been named in the Windies' one-day international squad to play five matches against Australia starting in St Vincent on Friday.

And ex-Queensland player Nash believes the hard-to-read Narine will give Australia's batsmen plenty to think about.

"This line-up has a few unknowns with the spinner who has taken a lot of wickets in the season to date as well as some good pacers that have taken wickets," Nash told AAP.

"Narine could cause some problems on the slower turning wickets that will be around the tour."

Opener Chris Gayle's ongoing dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board means the batsman Australia really need to be careful of is Bravo, the cousin of champion batsman Lara.

The 23-year-old will face Australia for the first time in the series but has made a brilliant start to his international career, averaging 52.50 in 13 Tests as well as scoring three hundreds.

Both he and half-brother Dwayne - making a return to international cricket after nine months out - will be important wickets for Australia, Nash says.

"The two Bravos," he said.

"Dwyane's just coming back into the mix and looking to perform and Darren has been scoring some runs."

Nash hasn't ruled out making a return to the Test line-up to play against the country of his birth once more, after touring Australia in 2009.

The 34-year-old left-hander's 21st Test appearance came in June last year but he's staked his claim for a recall with an unbeaten 205 for Jamaica in a regional four-day match against Guyana late last month.
