Young woman dies in northern NSW collision

An 18-year-old woman has died following a collision south of Byron Bay that closed the Pacific Highway for three hours.

A young woman has died after her car allegedly crossed onto the wrong side of the Pacific Highway in northern NSW and collided with another vehicle.

The 18-year-old died at the scene of the crash at Newrybar, south of Byron Bay, on Friday night.

The 63-year-old male driver of the other car and his female passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

The crash closed the highway for three hours.

Police are investigating the collision and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

On Saturday morning the body of a motorcyclist was found on the M4 in the western Sydney suburb of Merrylands.

Police believe the male rider had been hit by several vehicles.

Two motorists have been taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing and investigators are looking for more witnesses to come forward.
