Youth team added to domestic one-day cup

Cricket Australia have announced a seventh team will take part in the domestic one-day cup this summer to offer young talent valuable exposure.

Australia's best young crop of cricketers will get early exposure to top-tier one-day competition after a new team was added to the domestic cup.

A new development squad will join the established state-based six-team one-day competition in a two-year trial, Cricket Australia announced on Tuesday.

The move is designed to give talented and emerging cricketers more opportunity at an elite level.

The new CA XI team will be made up of players on the verge of state selection as well as established stars on their way back from injury.

Selected by state talent managers with input from the national selection panel, the side will be coached by national cricket centre coach and former England bowling coach, Tasmanian Troy Cooley, assisted by CA high performance coach Graeme Hick.

It will be the first time since the ACT Comets played their final game 15 years ago that Australia's domestic limited-overs competition will feature seven teams.
