Youth against experience.
Julie Fitzgerald has coached on both sides of the Tasman and says that's the major reason why New Zealand's teams have such a shocking record against Australian sides in netball's ANZ Championship.
Heading into Sunday's semi-finals, New Zealand teams have won just one out of 25 matches against Australian franchises.
And that was the very first match of the season, when Magic shaded the Thunderbirds by a single goal in Adelaide.
Since then there have been 21 losses and three draws in trans-Tasman matches for the five New Zealand sides, with Kiwi teams failing to win any of their 12 home games against Australian opposition.
On Sunday, NZ conference champions the Magic host NSW Swifts in Hamilton and Australian conference champions Queensland Firebirds play the Auckland-based Mystics in Brisbane.
It all points toward an all-Australian grand final in Brisbane a week later.
Both Australian teams won the regular season clash in New Zealand against their Kiwi opponents, with the Swifts beating the Magic 48-43 and the Firebirds defeating the Mystics 53-47.
Mentoring Magic is former NSW Swifts title-winning coach Fitzgerald, who cited the different age levels of the Australian and New Zealand sides as the reason for season's lopsided results.
"If you look at this year alone, the top three New Zealand teams, the amount of players they have got out there who are very young," Fitzgerald told AAP.
"That would never happen in an Australian franchise.
"Whilst we might have struggled on the scoreboard this year I think what we've put out on the court this year augurs really really well for the future.
"More than half of our team is under 21, the Mystics have got a very young defence and Southern Steel are a young team who are nearly all under 23.
"Teams like that don't exist in Australia, but if we can hold some of these teams together and keep developing them, I think you will see a very different picture."
While Fitzgerald has finished on the losing side in both of her regular season matches against Swifts in her two campaigns as Magic coach, she had a one-goal win over her old club in a finals fixture last year.
She was named the competition's coach of the year in 2014 and recently extended her contract to the end of 2016.
