Youths learn Indigenous wrestling form

Two Coreeda wrestling coaches from Sydney are set to travel to Queensland to teach the sport to local youths.

Coreeda wrestling coach Gavin Dickson has been teaching young Indigenous men from Sydney's west the style of Coreeda for years, and now he's taking his knowledge of the sport to others.

Mr Dickson, along with Coreeda athlete Matthew Collins, will introduce Coreeda to the locals on Mornington Island in Queensland.

Local residents contacted Dickson after seeing the Coreeda website and thought the wrestling could benefit the youth there.

Coreeda wrestling coach Gavin Dickson said he was excited about bringing Coreeda to Mornington Island.

"This is a great opportunity to take a traditional sport back to a very traditional community," he said.

The Coreeda pair leave Sydney on Sunday for Mornington Island.
