Yowie slashes sales growth forecasts again

Confectionery firm Yowie has slashed sales growth forecasts for the current financial year and the next year on the back of weaker than expected US sales.

Confectionary maker Yowie Group has slashed its full-year sales growth forecast for the second time in two months, despite posting its strongest-ever quarterly sales result.

The company said sales were $US5.9 million ($A7.8 million) in the three months to March, its highest-ever quarterly sales result and a 50 per cent jump over the previous corresponding period.

Yowie said in the year to the March quarter, sales have also soared 60 per cent to $US15.5 million.

Chief executive Bert Alfonso said the result was solid given low inventory levels at the start of the quarter and a distributor change by the company's largest customer.

However, he warned that with North American sales about $US1 million lower than expected, the company has revised its annual sales growth forecasts down to 70 per cent, from 85-90 per cent previously.

Yowie had cut its earlier sales growth forecast of 100 per cent just two months ago.

"I fully believe that while projecting our young business will remain challenging, our business fundamentals remain strong as well as our longer term growth potential," Mr Alfonso said.

The company said it expects sales growth in the 2018 financial year to be similar to the 70 per cent expected in the current financial year.

The company expects to post another break even result at the profit after tax level at the end of next financial year, Mr Alfonso said.

Yowie shares were down 2.5 cents, or 4.8 per cent, at 49.5 cents at 1015 AEST on Wednesday.
