Zagreb slaloms moved due to poor snow

Poor snow conditions in Croatia have forced World Cup organisers to shift January's men's and women's slalom races from Zagreb to Bormio in Italy.

The men's and women's World Cup slalom races scheduled for Zagreb (January 4-6) have been switched to the Italian resort of Bormio because of poor snow conditions in the Croatian capital, the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced on Saturday.

The FIS delayed their inspection of the course in Zagreb by two days in order to monitor conditions but have now decided to move the races as mild temperatures cannot allow the production of artificial snow.

The low altitude of the piste which usually features the start at 978m, south of Mont Medvednica, 15km from the Croatian capital, has played a factor at a World Cup event that has been in place since 2005.

The women's race will take place on Sunday January 5 in Bormio while the men's race will be a day-night event on Monday January 6.

The parallel slalom races scheduled for Munich on January 1 were cancelled a week ago again due to lack of snow.
